Casey to have MRI on injured ankle
By Chris Haft
The Cincinnati Enquirer
Reds first baseman Sean Casey will learn this morning how long he'll be sidelined by the injured left ankle he suffered Saturday.
Casey will undergo an MRI on his strained perineal tendon, located on the outside part of his ankle. Cincinnati's lone All-Star said he felt a pop in his ankle while advancing to third base in the seventh inning and while pursuing Jolbert Cabrera's 12th-inning infield single.
He could miss a day or a few days or even longer depending on what the MRI shows, said Reds medical director Dr. Tim Kremchek, who gave Casey crutches and a protective foam boot.
Casey didn't leave the game until he drew a 12th-inning walk and was replaced by pinch runner Wilton Guerrero.
Casey, 27, has appeared in 85 of the Reds' 90 games. He was sidelined briefly earlier this year by bruises on his left foot and right elbow.
I haven't had any major injuries, but I've had these dings jeez, said Casey, who's batting .318 with a team-high 10 homers and 62 RBI. But I'd take those (over a more serious ailment).
