Reds-Indians Scouting Report
When: 7:05p.m. today and Friday; 1:15 p.m. Saturday.
Where: Cinergy Field.
TV: Fox Sports Network, today and Friday; Channel 19, Saturday.
Records: Cincinnati 33-54, sixth place NL Central; Cleveland 49-36, second place AL Central.
Probable starting pitchers:
Today, RHP Chris Reitsma (4-7, 4.20 ERA) vs. RHP Bartolo Colon (6-7, 4.81);
Friday, RHP Elmer Dessens (6-6, 4.58) vs. LHP C.C. Sabathia (7-3, 4.72);
Saturday, RHP Jim Brower (4-6, 3.62) vs. RHP Dave Burba (8-6, 6.45).
The bats: Jim Thome (26 homers), Juan Gonzalez (23 HR) and Ellis Burks (21 HR) have helped Cleveland rank second in the AL in home runs and scoring.
Gonzalez, who's also batting .347 with 83 RBI, is having a huge season. So is 2B Roberto Alomar (.358 average, .431 on-base percentage).
The arms: Don't forget John Rocker is an Indian now. Something usually happens when he pitches, too. In seven appearances with Cleveland, he's 2-2 with a 3.86 ERA and two saves in three opportunities. He has struck out 11 in just seven innings.
The rest: Cincinnati is only 3-6 at home against Cleveland, though the Reds took two out of three June 8-10 at Jacobs Field.
