Dunn hits two HR, wins All-Star MVP

Enquirer news services

INDIANAPOLIS — Adam Dunn, the Reds' hottest prospect, homered twice and captured MVP honors in the Triple-A All-Star game Wednesday night.

The Louisville RiverBats outfielder, adding to his legend for his prodigious homers, crushed a towering two-run shot to right field that carried out of Victory Field and onto West Street in the first inning, and added a solo homer to right-center field in the third.

Indianapolis Indians officials estimated the first home run traveled more than 440 feet and called it one of the longest homers hit at the 5-year-old stadium.

"I was just fortunate to get a couple of pitches I could hit," said Dunn, who just missed a third homer with a fly out to the warning track.

In the radio booth, Milwaukee Brewers general manager Dean Taylor suggested, "We may be seeing him (in the majors) in the next two or three weeks."

Earlier Wednesday, Reds GM Jim Bowden said Dunn would not be called up soon. (Story)

Dunn, who also homered off the restaurant facade at Seattle's Safeco Field in the Futures Game Sunday, has combined for 30 home runs and 80 RBI at Double-A and Triple-A this year.

Dunn joined current San Diego Padre Ryan Klesko as the only players to hit two homers in a Triple-A All-Star Game. Klesko did it in 1993 in Albuquerque, N.M.

Dunn's homers were the International League's only hits through eight innings, and the Pacific Coast League won the game 9-5.
