Red-Twins Scouting Report

Records: Cincinnati 33-51, fifth place NL Central; Minnesota 52-32, , first place AL Central.

        When: 8:05p.m. today; 7:05p.m. Saturday; 2:05p.m. Sunday.

        Where: The Metrodome, Minneapolis.

        Radio: WLW-AM (700).

TV: Fox Sports Network, today only.

        Probable starting pitchers:

Today, RHP Chris Reitsma (4-7, 4.20 ERA) vs. LHP Johan Santana (1-0, 4.34)

Saturday, LHP Lance Davis (1-1, 7.79) vs. RHP Kyle Lohse (2-0, 4.34)

Sunday, RHP Elmer Dessens (6-5, 4.28) vs. RHP Brad Radke (9-4, 3.76).

The bats: No Twin has more than 12 home runs, which is why Minnesota is pursuing a hitter (Dmitri Young?) in the trade market. The Twins are tied for fourth in the league in scoring despite being tied for ninth in homers. Matt Lawton, Cristian Guzman, Corey Koskie, Doug Mientkiewicz and Anthony Pierzynski are good gap-to-gap hitters who have helped Minnesota rank second in the league in doubles and triples. The arms: LHP Eric Milton and RHP Joe Mays, both on the American League All-Star team, won't start in this series.

The rest: Cincinnati is 7-5 against Minnesota in interleague play but 2-4 at the Metrodome.
