Griffey could win spot on All-Star team
Ken Griffey Jr. is only 1,340 votes shy of winning a spot on the National League All-Star team even though he hasn't played a full game all season.
The injured Reds star is fourth among outfielders with 301,126 votes and could pass Arizona' Luis Gonzalez (302,466) for a starting position. The top two outfielders are San Francisco's Barry Bonds (634,548) and Chicago's Sammy Sosa (510,993).
No other Reds have much chance to be voted to the starting lineup. Shortstop Barry Larkin, who has been on the disabled list for a month, is the closest. He trails Rich Aurilia of San Francisco by 47,037.
Mets catcher Mike Piazza leads the NL voting with 679,287 votes in balloting released Tuesday.
