Bowden: Not interested in Pirates' job
By Chris Haft
The Cincinnati Enquirer
CHICAGO Reds general manager Jim Bowden addressed a Pittsburgh Post-Gazette report naming him as a possible candidate for the Pittsburgh Pirates' general manager's vacancy by reaffirming his allegiance to the Reds.
I'm loyal to Mr. (Carl) Lindner and John Allen, and I'm a Cincinnati Red, said Bowden, referring to the team's chief executive officer and chief operating officer, respectively. What I want to do is get our team healthy and continue to get our club back where it belongs which is first place and continue to develop our good young players. My interest is only in the Reds, and my loyalty is to Mr. Lindner and Mr. Allen, who have been with me through the good and the bad.
The Post-Gazette also named director of player personnel Leland Maddox, who spent 1990-98 with the Pirates in various capacities, as another potential candidate for the opening created when Cam Bonifay was fired.
