Larkin may return by end of road trip
Will test injured groin today
By John Fay
The Cincinnati Enquirer
ST. LOUIS Barry Larkin hopes to return to the lineup by the end of this road trip, which means he could be back in a week.
Whether that's realistic or not will be determined today. Larkin, who has been on the disabled list since May 18 with a strained right groin, will test the injury in a series of agility drills.
He was supposed to do the drills Sunday or Monday, but wet weather here made that impossible. The Reds begin a two-game series in Milwaukee today. Miller Park has a retractable roof, so weather won't be a factor.
We'll have him do light sprinting, some backward running, test his lateral movement, assistant trainer Mark Mann said. We'll see what he can tolerate and go from there.'
Larkin still feels some pain when he hits.
I feel it when I have to turn on a ball, he said. But it's not the sharp pain I was having.
