ST. LOUIS Aaron Boone hoped to return to the lineup by the Milwaukee series which begins Tuesday. But that's starting to look hopeless.
Boone still feels pain in his hand he had a surgery to remove a broken hamate bone May 15 when he hits. He took live batting practice off coach Tim Foli.
I still feel it, he said. It's better. But it needs to get better for me to play in a game.
Still, Boone would not rule out playing in Milwaukee.
Probably not, he said. But I don't want to rule it out. It might get to the point, where I say, "yeah, I can play.'
Bob Boone, Aaron's father and the Reds manager, says overcoming the fear factor is the key for all the players on the disabled list. Barry Larkin (pulled groin) and Ken Griffey Jr. (torn hamstring) are in a similar situation.
For (Aaron), Lark and Junior, they have to get to the point where they can do what they have to do without fear, Boone said.
