Welsh gets chance on national TV
By John Fay
The Cincinnati Enquirer
Chris Welsh, the Reds' TV analyst on Fox Sports Net, will get a shot at the big time Saturday. Welsh will work the Reds-St.Louis Cardinals game on the Fox network.
The game is the No.2 Fox game, behind the Cleveland Indians-New York Yankees. The Cards-Reds will be seen by 21 percent of the country. The spot opened up when Fox's regular analyst, Jeff Torborg, took the Montreal Expos' manager job.
I was expecting a call from the Expos or Fox, Welsh said. I think I got the right call.
Welsh, who has done Reds games for nine seasons, will work with play-by-play man Josh Lewin. Al Hrabosky, a analyst in St. Louis, also will be in the booth.
It's an opportunity to get some exposure to the network people, Welsh said. The good thing is I'm familiar with both teams. I've followed the Reds all year, and I just worked a series with the Cardinals.
