Bowden: Not looking to break up core

Reds don't have veterans to move

By John Fay
The Cincinnati Enquirer

The Reds would seem to be a perfect team for a fire sale. They are hanging on the edge of contention with four months of baseball to play. The only problem is they have nothing to sell.

“This isn't a veteran team filled with free agents,” Reds general manager Jim Bowden said. “We've got one free agent — Pete Harnisch — and he's on the disabled list.”

Bowden said the Reds' young core — Sean Casey, Dmitri Young, Pokey Reese, Aaron Boone, Danny Graves — won't be traded just because this year's team is struggling.

“We're not looking to break that up,” Bowden said.
