Reds-Cardinals Scouting Report

        • When: 7:05p.m. today and Saturday; 1:15p.m. Sunday.

        • Where: Cinergy Field.

        • Radio: WLW-AM (700).

        • TV: Fox Sports Ohio, today and Saturday.

        • Records: Cincinnati 19-27, fifth place Central Division; St.Louis 26-19, first place Central Division.

        • Probable starting pitchers:

Today, RHP Chris Reitsma (2-4, 4.37 ERA) vs. RHP Andy Benes (3-3, 6.60)

Saturday, RHP Elmer Dessens (3-2, 4.94) vs. RHP Dustin Hermanson (5-1, 4.14)

Sunday, Brian Reith (0-1, 4.35) vs. RHP Darryl Kile (6-3, 3.38).

        • The bats: Mark McGwire's on the disabled list, but you can feast your eyes on Rookie of the Year candidate Albert Pujols, who's hitting a robust .364 with 14 homers and 46 RBI. J.D. Drew (17 homers) has blossomed, and Jim Edmonds (.328) remains one of the game's most dangerous players.

        • The arms: Hermanson, whom the Reds tried to obtain during the winter meetings, has been everything St.Louis hoped for. Relief ace Dave Veres has 21 strikeouts in 16 2/3 innings through Thursday.

        • The rest: Cincinnati was 7-6 against the Cardinals last year, including 4-3 at Cinergy Field.
