Reds Notebook
Larkin returns - briefly
By Chris Haft
The Cincinnati Enquirer
Shortstop Barry Larkin returned to the lineup after missing two games with a sore right groin. He left after three innings because of the lopsided score.
It was a little tight at the end, but it felt pretty good, said Larkin, who went 0-for-2.
I was a little nervous about playing him today, said manager Bob Boone. And I was encouraged that he did want to play.
ON STREAKS: Dmitri Young's 12-game hitting streak ended as he went 0-for-2 with a walk.
Michael Tucker's first-inning stolen base extended the Reds' streak of successful thefts to 18.
The Reds' consecutive-games errorless streak ended at three games when Osvaldo Fernandez missed a first-inning throw from catcher Jason LaRue, enabling Ryan Klesko to advance to second base.
ETC. San Diego earned its first three-game sweep of the Reds in Cincinnati since July 1998.
Having recovered from his strained left rib cage muscle, right-hander Scott Winchester is being activated from the disabled list and will join Triple-A Louisville on an injury rehabilitation stint.
Scoring change: Upon further review, Reds left fielder Young was charged with an error on Klesko's ninth-inning double Saturday. That trimmed Klesko's RBI on the play to one instead of two. It also made one run unearned, shaving relief ace Danny Graves' ERA from 1.15 to 0.57.
