Newcomer Clark already turning heads
By Chris Haft
The Cincinnati Enquirer
Even if outfielder Brady Clark doesn't stick with the Reds for long, he might impress another team if he gets a chance.
Clark, recalled from Triple-A Louisville when the Reds optioned right-hander Matt Skrmetta to that club, has prompted interest from Colorado and Kansas City. A scout from another National League team expressed curiosity about Clark on Tuesday.
Everybody seems to believe Clark, 28, is better than the statistics he posted with Louisville. He hit .229 in 21 games with no homers and eight RBI after batting .304 with Louisville and .273 (3-for-11) for the Reds last year.
Clark said he recently adjusted the prescription on his contact lenses. I don't think that was a main reason for struggling, but I think it did play a part in it, he said.
Reds manager Bob Boone knows Clark's assets.
He's a real solid defender, Boone said. And I know he'll give me a real pro at-bat.
The Reds might have chosen to summon first baseman D.T. Cromer instead of Clark. But they couldn't do that because Cromer had been optioned to the minors within a 10-day period (last Friday). Boone said the organization considered taking an infielder instead of Clark, whose presence gives the Reds an excess of outfielders (six), but said Chris Sexton has a bad back and Wilton Guerrero had suffered a hip flexor.
