Hampton to miss start today
The Associated Press
DENVER Mike Hampton's sore neck, caused by sleeping on a hotel pillow, will force the Rockies ace to miss today's start against the Reds.
He'll be replaced by Shawn Chacon, who will be making his major-league debut. Chacon was 2-0 with a 2.25 ERA in four starts at Triple-A Colorado Springs.
There is nothing new, Colorado manager Buddy Bell said of Hampton's ailment. He's been getting treatment and we feel we need to give him some more time.
Hampton (3-0) left the game after five innings of his last start, on April 24 against the Chicago Cubs. He allowed one run and three hits before complaining of soreness in his neck.
As late as Thursday, Hampton said he was feeling better and probably would make his next start.
I will pitch unless they lock me up in a room and don't let me pitch, he said then.
