TV: Fox Sports Ohio, Saturday and Sunday.
Records: Cincinnati 4-6, tied for fifth place Central Division; New York 4-5, third place East.
Probable starting pitchers: Today, Osvaldo Fernandez (1-1, 6.10 ERA) vs. RHP Steve Trachsel (0-1, 18.00); Saturday, RHP Chris Reitsma (1-0, 2.25) vs. LHP Al Leiter (0-1, 4.50); Sunday, TBA vs. Kevin Appier (1-0, 3.46).
The bats: New York entered Thursday with a .227 team average, 14th in the National League. Outfielders Benny Agbayani and Timo Perez, both hitting .385, are on the disabled list. But Mike Piazza (.321, four homers, 10 RBI) is off to a good start.
The arms: Uncharacteristically, Leiter has allowed 16 hits in 12 innings. Mets pitchers have exhibited superb control; they walked just 18 batters in their first 69 1/3 innings.
The rest: The Reds won five of nine games against New York last year, splitting six games at Shea Stadium.
