Curfew doesn't affect Reds yet
By Chris Haft
The Cincinnati Enquirer
PITTSBURGH Should the 8 p.m. curfew imposed by the city of Cincinnati extend into next week, the Reds would face a scheduling conflict.
They have night games beginning at 7:05 Tuesday and Wednesday against Milwaukee at Cinergy Field. Fri day's series opener against New York is also a 7:05p.m. date; Saturday's and Sunday's games start at 1:15 p.m.
The Reds haven't changed any starting times or canceled any games yet. Said Reds chief operating officer John Allen in a statement: We're monitoring the situation. When it comes time to make the decision regarding the games, we'll sit down with the appropriate people and make the decision.
The Reds and Brewers both are off Monday, which could make moving the series opener to the afternoon less of a problem. And the Reds and Mets both have off days Thursday before their series begins.
I know that's a little tough on short notice because of the people who planned to go at night, but we have to do what's right as an organization to protect everybody the fans, the players, the people who work in the ballpark, Griffey said.
Canceling games wouldn't be unprecedented. The Los Angeles Dodgers postponed their April 30, 1992, game against the Philadelphia Phillies and their May 1-3 series against the Montreal Expos in the wake of riots following the Rodney King verdict. The Los Angeles Clippers of the NBA also postponed a playoff game against the Utah Jazz at the same time.
