Pitcher makes big-league debut against Brewers

MILWAUKEE This time, Justin Atchley sensed he should take matters into his own hands.
Told by Triple-A Louisville manager Dave Miley and Reds assistant general manager Darrell Doc Rodgers that he was being promoted, Atchley jokingly said, The first thing I told them was that I was going to turn off my cell phone and change my flight to right then so they didn't have time to change their minds.
Atchley was told March 29 that he had made the Opening Day roster. The next day, manager Bob Boone told the left-handed reliever he'd start the season in Louisville, because the team needed an additional position player more than a 12th pitcher.
Atchley made his major-league debut Saturday, relieving Pete Harnisch and retiring the only batter he faced, Jeromy Burnitz, on a grounder in the fifth inning.
