Bowden has eye for Ramon
Reds general manager Jim Bowden has set his sights on former Los Angeles Dodgers ace Ramon Martinez, who pitched his last injury-free season in 1995.
Bowden said on his WLW-AM radio show Thursday that he was pursuing Martinez, who was released in spring training by the Dodgers after posting a 10-8 record with a 6.13 ERA for Boston last year. Because Bowden mentioned Triple-A pitching coach Grant Jackson as someone who could revive Martinez's skills, it's likely the right-hander would go to the minors if he signed with the Reds.
Martinez, 33, owns a 135-86 career record but hasn't been the same since suffering a partial tear of his right rotator cuff in June 1997.
