Game report: Tigers 8, Reds 5

The arms: Osvaldo Fernandez had his scoreless innings streak stopped at 10 innings.

Fernandez was very good after a rough first. He went five innings, allowing two runs and four hits, and retired 12 of the last 14 batters he faced.

The bullpen was not so good. Dennys Reyes (one run), Scott Sullivan (three runs) and Mark Wohlers (two runs) were touched up in an inning of work each.

The bats: Dmitri Young hit a two-run homer. Brandon Larson went 2-for-4.

The rest: Pokey Reese made a nice stab of a line drive to rob Shane Halter of a hit, and Donnie Sadler turned a nice play at second base.

Up next: The Reds play the Boston Red Sox at 1:05 p.m. today at Ed Smith Stadium. Scott Williamson (0-0, 5.91 ERA) faces Paxton Crawford (0-1, 3.00). Shortstop Barry Larkin is scheduled to return to the lineup after a groin injury.
