Game report: Red Sox 5, Reds 3

The arms: Pete Harnisch gave up five hits and four runs in six innings. He struck out four and walked one. “Pete was fine,” Reds manager Bob Boone said. “Another day of work.”

Harnisch easily could have allowed only two runs, but a pop fly fell between center fielder Ken Griffey Jr. and second baseman Donnie Sadler in the first.

It would have been the third out, but two runs scored after the play. Boston's Pedro Martinez beat the Reds for the second time in a week.

The bats: Sean Casey had two hits, including a home run — the first earned run off Martinez this spring. Casey has hits in 12 of the Reds' last 16 games. He's hitting .363. Deion Sanders lined a single, stole second and scored on Kelly Stinnett's single.

The rest: The Reds, thanks to Martinez, drew 7,595 — the third biggest crowd in Ed Smith Stadium history. Griffey made a diving catch to rob Carl Everett of extra bases in the sixth.

Up next: The Reds go to Lakeland to play the Detroit Tigers today at 1:05 p.m. Osvaldo Fernandez (2-0, 0.00 ERA) faces Jeff Weaver (2-0, 0.90).
