Game report: Devil Rays 7, Reds 0

The arms — Manager Bob Boone wasn't overly concerned about starter Rob Bell, who was pounded for four runs and seven hits in three innings. “I thought he had pretty good stuff, but all his pitches were a little bit up,” Boone said.

The bats — Tampa Bay ended the Reds' consecutive-games streak of scoring at least one run at 209, including exhibitions. The last time Cincinnati was blanked was the wild-card playoff game of Oct. 4, 1999, when Mets left-hander Al Leiter yielded just two hits. Aware that the Reds scored one run Sunday, Boone said jokingly, “We're going through a dead-bat period.”

The rest — Left fielder Michael Coleman endured an up-and-down day. He had two singles but made two fielding errors, and could have been charged with a third error on a bad throw home that veered almost halfway up the first-base line.

Up next — Today against Toronto at Dunedin, Fla., 1:05 p.m. Osvaldo Fernandez, unscored upon in 10 spring innings, faces Blue Jays right-hander Roy Halladay.
