Game report: Reds 8, Phillies 4

The arms — Rob Bell displayed the command the Reds want to see from him, walking none and striking out six in four innings. Seth Etherton, a candidate for the starting rotation, pitched a perfect fifth inning in his spring debut.

The bats — Seven consecutive Reds reached base safely in their five-run fifth. Sean Casey's two-run single was the inning's biggest hit. Pokey Reese's fourth-inning RBI double ended an 0-for-12 skid.

The rest — Second baseman Reese, shortstop Barry Larkin and third baseman Aaron Boone all made slick fielding plays. Though Triple-A left-hander Justin Atchley has never been considered a contender to make the Opening Day roster, he's unscored upon in five spring innings.

Up next — Today against Boston in Fort Myers, Fla., 1:05p.m. Osvaldo Fernandez, who hasn't allowed a run in seven innings, will oppose former Dodger Hideo Nomo.
