The arms Elder High graduate Chris Nichting recorded the save in the afternoon game at Bradenton, coaxing a fielder's-choice grounder with the bases loaded and two out. Reitsma, said to have an outside chance at a spot in the starting rotation, lasted 1 1/3 innings.
The bats Non-roster outfielder Raul Gonzalez lined a three-run homer off the right-field foul screen, the biggest hit in a four-run ninth inning that erased the Reds' 8-7 deficit in the day game. At night, Michael Tucker went 3-for-3 with two homers before Austin Kearns and Adam Dunn also homered to make it close.
The rest Moeller High School graduate Adam Hyzdu grounded an infield single off Nichting.
