A month away from opening day, Cinergy Field's first grass playing surface is greening up.
The thermal grow-blanket that was atop the grass has been removed while the stadium's lights are being tested. The infield grass, which was installed last fall, is already playable; the outfield was sodded two weeks ago.
Much of Cinergy's outfield seating bowl was removed to make room for the building of Great American Ball Park. A new fence had to built that, in center field, is only 393 feet from home plate 11 feet closer than it was last year.
