Reds tickets on sale today

Hearty fans camp out overnight

By Marie McCain
The Cincinnati Enquirer

Waiting overnight for Opening Day Reds tickets has become a tradition for Kevin Potter.

“I have to get these tickets ... My family is depending on me,” the Indianapolis man said Friday afternoon. ""I've been calling the Reds every day for about two weeks.”

  • Tickets can also be purchased at reds.mlb.com beginning at 9 a.m. today.
  • Tickets can be charged by phone. Call (513) 381-REDS, in Cincinnati, or toll-free at 877-647-REDS outside Cincinnati.
Mr. Potter was one of about 10 diehard fans who staked out spots Friday and planned to stay overnight to get dibs on tickets. Tickets for regular-season games go on sale at 9 a.m. today.

Mr. Potter left Indianapolis about noon Friday and got in line about 4:30 p.m. Clad in a Reds ball cap, turtleneck shirt and jacket, and carrying a Reds bag, he paced anxiously.

Danny Egbers of Milford and his friend Andy Espelage of Anderson Township were the first two customers in line at Cinergy Field's advance-ticket window.

The pair brought sleeping bags, pillows and food.

“This is the first time either one of us has done this,” Mr. Espelage said. “I hope it doesn't rain.”
