Stars will miss RedsFest 2001

Larkin, Griffey, Casey all have prior commitments

By John Erardi
The Cincinnati Enquirer

Kahn's RedsFest 2001 is set for Jan.26-27, but several high-profile Reds won't be able to attend.

Barry Larkin is an usher in teammate Alex Ochoa's wedding; Sean Casey has another wedding to attend, and Ken Griffey Jr., in addition to Ochoa's wedding, has a commitment to appear at the Super Bowl in conjunction with some of his endorsement deals.

Still, many Reds past and present are scheduled to attend, including Gold Glove second baseman Pokey Reese, All-Star pitchers Danny Graves and Scott Williamson, and the Boones — manager Bob and third baseman Aaron. Reds broadcasters Marty Brennaman and Joe Nuxhall also are expected to be at the Albert B. Sabin Convention Center.

Tickets go on sale Dec.15 at The Dugout Shop (513-241-0947) in the Westin Hotel downtown and The Bullpen (937-435-4041) at the Miami Valley Baseball Academy in Dayton. From Dec. 15-Jan. 18, tickets can be purchased by phone by calling 877-639-REDS.

The Jan. 26 event is 4-10 p.m. and the Jan. 27 event is from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tickets — $7 for adults and $5 for children 12 and under — also will be sold at the door. Also scheduled to attend: Players Dmitri Young, Michael Tucker, Rob Bell, Jason LaRue, Chris Sexton and John Riedling; coaches Ken Griffey Sr., Bill Doran (Friday only), Tom Hume and Tim Foli; Reds telecasters George Grande and Chris Welsh, and Big Red Machine players George Foster and Jack Billingham.

For more information, call the Reds marketing department at 513-421-4510, extension 4106, or media relations at 4000.
