On the 25th anniversary of the "Greatest World Series Ever,' The Enquirer is running a series of stories about each game.

        Boston, Oct. 11, 1975 — The Reds were more concerned than they let on about having lost Game One. In their past two World Series (1970 and 1972), they'd lost the first two games and went on to lose the Series. They turned to old reliable, Jack Billingham, to get them over the hump.

        Cactus Jack's baffling mix of well-located pitches kept the Red Sox off-stride and within striking distance. Johnny Bench singled off Bill (Spaceman) Lee in the fourth inning to drive in Joe Morgan and tie the score at 1. The Reds trailed 2-1 going into the ninth.

        That's when Bench again woke up the Reds, rifling a double to right, and David Concepcion tied it up with a soft single to center; Ken Griffey Sr. ripped a double to left-center to score Concepcion, and put the Reds up 3-2.

        Rawley Eastwick got the save with a 1-2-3 ninth.

        Afterward, Pete Rose pondered the Reds' puny output (through two games) and put his finger on what every American League fan had to be thinking about the Reds:

        "That team won 108 games?”
