Hunter undergoes knee surgery
Reds outfielder Brian Hunter underwent arthroscopic surgery Tuesday to repair torn cartilage in his right knee.
Hunter is expected to be fully recovered by spring training. But the Reds are not going to pick up the $3 million option on the 2001 contract for Hunter, who batted .267 with 20 stolen bases for Colorado and Cincinnati. Instead, they'll pay him a $250,000 buyout with the hopes of signing him to a more economical deal.
Team physician Dr. Timothy Kremchek performed the operation at Good Samaritan Hospital.
