The collection of red- and green-level seats being removed from Cinergy Field will be sold to collectors. But not by the Reds.
O'Rourke Wrecking (Co.) owns them as salvage, said Declan Mullin, director of stadium operations.
O'Rourke, contracted by Hamilton County for this removal of 14,000 outfield seats and the stadium's demolition after the 2002 season, plans to eventually sell all memorabilia.
Do we have seats available for sale? Yes, O'Rourke president Mike O'Rourke said. But you might have to wait two years for them.
He said the company is analyzing whether to sell this current batch of seats soon as memorabilia, or combine them with the other 38,000 in a sale after the 2002 season.
When we go back and demolish the balance of the stadium, we'll try to market (sections of) the turf, the dugouts anything we can sell, O'Rourke said. We'll take an inventory of everything that might have value.
These seats won't be nearly as valuable as those from Crosley Field, which were wooden and enjoyed a longer useful life.
I would guess a single (Cinergy) seat would be worth $100 to $200, said Steve Wolter, local memorabilia expert and owner of Sports Investments in Mont gomery. An unrestored Crosley seat without the "C' logo (which some aisle seats had) has a retail value of $300 to $500, and ones with the "C' on the side are $1,200 to $1,500.
Mr. O'Rourke expects to decide within a few days when the seats currently being removed will be sold. Fans can get updates on the company's Web site, www.orourkewrecking.com.
