Statues will honor Nux, Klu, Robby, Lombardi
By Chris Haft
The Cincinnati Enquirer
Joe Nuxhall displayed the warmth and humility that has endeared him to legion of Reds fans as he considered the statue that will preserve his legacy for all time.
That's a heck of an honor, said Nuxhall, one of four Reds legends who sculptors will immortalize at Crosley Terrace at the new Great American Ball Park. You look at your life and all the nice things that have been bestowed on you, and then something like this is unbelievable. I don't know how to explain it. You think of all the great players who played in Crosley Field and for yourself to be picked out is a tremendous honor. I hope I'm here to enjoy it.
Nuxhall, 72, will be joined in life-sized form by first baseman Ted Kluszewski, outfielder Frank Robinson and catcher Ernie Lombardi. Fans chose the honorees by casting 17,000 votes on the Internet and at Cinergy Field. They were asked to select one catcher, one pitcher and two hitters.
