Mudville nine now belong to Reds
By By Chris Haft
The Cincinnati Enquirer
The Reds are now linked to the Mudville Nine.
Mudville, which is based in Stockton, Calif., replaces the Clinton (Iowa) LumberKings of the Midwest League as the Reds' advanced Single-A outpost. The Milwaukee Brewers were Mudville's former major-league affiliate.
The Reds are the oldest professional baseball franchise, dating back to 1869, which is fitting for the Mudville Nine's 19th-century image, team president Tom Seidler said in a statement.
The Mudville Nine became part of baseball legend as the team that the fictional Mighty Casey played for in the poem Casey At The Bat.
