Reds-Giants Scouting Report




        • The series: Reds (78-72, second place in the National League Central) vs. San Francisco Giants (89-59, first place in the National League West).

        • Where: Pacific Bell Park.

        • When: Today 10:15 p.m.; Tuesday 10:15 p.m., Wednesday 10:07 p.m.

        < • Radio: WLW-AM (700).

        • TV: Fox Sports Net tonight and Tuesday; ESPN Wednesday.
       • Pitching matchups: Today — Osvaldo Fernandez (2-3, 4.34) vs. LHP Shawn Estes (15-4, 3.98); Tuesday — RHP Rob Bell (7-7, 4.94) vs. RHP Livan Hernandez (15-10, 3.65); Wednesday — RHP Steve Parris (12-14, 4.47) vs. TBA

        Estes has the best winning percentage in the NL. Closer Rob Nen has 37 saves and a 1.35 ERA. Opponents are hitting only .161 off him.

        • The bats: The Giants are third in the National League in hitting and second in runs scored. Jeff Kent (.335, 33 HR, 123 RBI) and Barry Bonds (.316, 47 HR, 102 RBI) are having huge years. Ellis Burks has contributed 23 homers and 88 RBI, and J.T. Snow has 17 homers and 90 RBI.

        • The rest: The Reds go to San Francisco for three games and then come right back home. They are off Thursday, then play the final home series of the year — three against Houston. The Reds are 0-3 at Pac Bell this year. The Giants have the best home record in baseball (51-22). The Reds took two of three from the Giants in the only series the teams played a Cinergy this year.
