Astros-Reds Scouting Report
The series: Reds (50-48) second place in the National League Central) vs. Houston Astros (35-63 sixth place in the National League Central).
Where: Cinergy Field.
When: Today at 7:05 p.m.; Tuesday at 7:35 p.m.; Wednesday 12:35 p.m.
Radio: WLW (700 AM).
TV: Fox Sports Net today and Tuesday.
The bats: The Astros are fourth in the NL in runs scored and third in home runs, thanks largely to playing their home games at Enron Field.
The arms: Today RHP Pete Harnisch (3.5, 5.27) vs. RHP Chirs Holt (4-11, 4.62)
Tuesday RHP Scott Williamson (3-7, 3.66) vs. RHP Jose Lima (3-13, 7.03)
Wednesday RHP Steve Parris (5-12, 5.56) vs. Scott Elarton (9-4, 5.44)
The Astros are without closer Billy Wagner for the year. That's made the bullpen a shadow of itself. The Astros are second to last in the NL in ERA, last in home runs, saves and hits. The big reason is the departure of Mike Hampton and the ineffectiveness of Lima.
The rest: For all their problems at Enron, the Astros are more dreadful on the road, where they are 17-33. The Reds have taken four of six games from Houston this year.
