        • Franchester Brennaman, July 28, 1942, in Portsmouth, Va.

        Family

        • Wife Sherri, married 22 years. Son Thom, broadcaster for the Arizona Diamondbacks. Daughters Dawn (Venerus) and Ashley. Two grandchildren.

        RESUME

        • 1965: Bachelor's degree in radio-television, University of North Carolina, 1965

        • 1965: TV news reporter for WGHP-TV in High Point, N.C.

        • 1965-70: Radio play-by-play of Catawba College football and basketball, high school sports and and American Legion baseball, WSTP, Salisbury N.C.

        • 1970-74: Play-by-play voice, Virginia Squires, American Basketball Association, WTAR, Norfolk, Va., 1970-74. Also did Tidewater Tides Triple-A baseball, William and Mary College football and Virginia Tech football.

        • 1974-present: Radio play-by-play voice of the Cincinnati Reds

        • 1982: Indiana Pacers TV, 1982

        • 1984-86: ACC college basketball

        • 1987-present: NCAA Tournament regionals and Final Four

        • 1987-88: University of Kentucky basketball

        • 1989: SEC basketball. Of note: He has broadcast three World Series (1975, 1976, 1990), 13 NCAA basketball regionals and seven NCAA Final Fours.

        AWARDS

        • 12-time winner of the Ohio Sportscaster of the Year (most recently 1998).

        • Four-time winner of the Virginia Sportscaster of the Year.

        BIG MOMENTS HE'S CALLED

        • Hank Aaron's record-tying 714th career home run (1974)

        • Tom Seaver's no-hitter (1978)

        • Pete Rose's record-breaking 4,192nd hit (1985)

        • Tom Browning's perfect game (1988)

        • Eric Davis' first-game, first-inning homer in the World Series (1990)

        • Christian Laettner's buzzer-beating turnaround shot to beat Kentucky (1992).

        HALL ELECTIONS

        • Selected by a commitee for the Ford C. Frick Award and induction into the broadcaster's wing of the Hall. Committee members include broadcasters Vin Scully, Joe Garagiola, Jack Buck and Ernie Harwell and former baseball commissioner Bowie Kuhn.
