Most viewers shut out of live Hall coverage

By John Fay
The Cincinnati Enquirer

Only about 5 percent of homes in this area are going to be able to watch the Hall of Fame inductions live Sunday.

That's because the ceremonies will be aired on ESPN Classic. Only Time Warner's digital cable subscribers get Classic. That's 45,000 of Time Warner's 330,000 total subscribers.

LIVE ON THE WEB
www.baseballhalloffame.org is hosting a live Webcast of Sunday's ceremony, beginning at 1:30 p.m.
Classic will go live from Cooperstown, N.Y., where Sparky Anderson, Tony Perez, Marty Brennaman and Bid McPhee will be inducted in a ceremony from 1:30 to 4:30 p.m.

        A one-hour highlight show will air on ESPN2 at 1 p.m. Monday.

ESPN has exclusive rights to the Hall ceremonies, so no local station is allowed to carry them live.

But all four local stations will cover the ceremonies.

Channel 9 will have a special show from 5-6 p.m. Sunday. Denny Janson, John Popovich and Kathrine Nero will do the show live from Cooperstown. Sports of All Sorts, which airs at 11:30 p.m. Sunday, also will be live from Cooperstown.

        Channel 5 will air a one-hour preview show from 8-9 p.m. Saturday.

Channels 12 and 19 also have reporters in Cooperstown.

Channel 12 will cover the ceremonies on Sports Authority, which airs at 11:30 p.m. Sunday.

Channel 19 will use the bulk of Sports Wrap to cover the Reds' big day.

Fox Sports Net will have a live Hall preview show at 12:30 p.m. Sunday.
