Eduardo Perez to see dad enshrined

By John Fay
The Cincinnati Enquirer

Eduardo Perez didn't have to ask for the day off. His bosses forced him to take one.

Eduardo, a backup first baseman with the St. Louis Cardinals and a former Cincinnati Red, will attend his father Tony's induction ceremonies into the Hall of Fame Sunday.

“(Manager) Tony LaRussa and (general manager) Walt Jocketty said, "You better not show up for the game,'” Eduardo said.

The Astros play a day game in Houston.

Perez will fly from Houston to Pittsburgh, then from Pittsburgh to Albany, N.Y., where he'll rent a car and drive the rest of the way to Cooperstown.

“It'll be a tight squeeze,” he said. “But I'll make it in by midnight or so.”
