Reds-Tigers Scouting Report




        • The series: Reds (46-44, second place in the National League Central) vs. Detroit Tigers (40-47, third place in the American League Central).

        • Where: Comerica Park.

        • When: 1:05p.m. today, 7:05p.m. Monday, 7:05p.m. Tuesday.

        • Radio: WLW-AM (700).

        • TV: Fox Sports Net Monday and Tuesday.

        • The bats: Juan Gonzalez is not having a big year in his first year in Detroit. He has been troubled by a bad left ankle. He's hitting .274 with 13 home runs and 33 RBI. Bobby Higginson (17 HRs, 55 RBI) and Dean Palmer (18 HRs, 50 RBI) are having productive years. But the Tigers are last in the AL in runs scored and on-base percentage.

        • The arms: Today — RHP Steve Parris (5-11, 5.26) vs. RHP Jeff Weaver (5-7, 4.62);

        Monday — RHP Larry Luebbers (0-0, 0.00) vs. RHP Dave Mlicki (3-9, 5.72);

        Tuesday — RHP Elmer Dessens (2-0, 4.85) vs. RHP Brian Moehler (6-5, 3.61).

        Closer Todd Jones leads the AL with 24 saves. He has a 2.45 ERA and has struck out 38 batters in 33 innings.

        • The rest: This is the end of interleague play for the Reds. They are 4-2 against Detroit. Comerica will be the third new park the Reds play in this year.
