REDS NOTEBOOK

Bichette, Boone miss Friday's game

By John Fay
The Cincinnati Enquirer

Dante Bichette and Aaron Boone were both out of the lineup Friday night.

Boone is still hobbled after hyper-extending his left knee trying to avoid a collision with Barry Larkin on Wednesday.

Boone was available to pinch-hit Friday. He could start today.

Bichette was hit by a Rick Ankiel pitch on the shin Thursday in St. Louis.

“It was a direct hit,” he said. “When I looked at it, I said, "Is that my knee or where the ball hit me?'”

Bichette is hopeful for a Sunday return.

“They can do some amazing things in treatment now,”he said. “But it really hurts.”

TRANSACTION: The Reds picked up right-handed pitcher Jason Sekandy off waivers Friday.

Sekandy had been released by the Boston Red Sox. He was 3-3 with a 5.47 ERA with Triple-A Pawtucket. The Reds assigned him to Double-A Chattanooga.

UP NEXT: Steve Parris (4-11, 5.36 ERA) will start today against Kane Davis (0-1, 12.15) in the second game of the series.

Parris is coming off a 3-2 victory over Arizona.
