NL Central), Arizona (46-32, first place NL West).
Where: Bank One Ballpark, Phoenix. Arizona.
When: 10:05 p.m. today, 4:10 p.m. Saturday, 4:35 p.m. Sunday and
Monday.
Radio: WLW-AM (700).
TV: Fox Sports Network today, Sunday and Monday; Channel 19
Saturday.
The arms: Today ... Pete Harnisch (0-4, 9.95 ERA) vs. Mike Morgan
(3-1, 3.29);
Saturday ... Osvaldo Fernandez (2-1, 3.21) vs. Armando Reynoso (5-6,
5.69);
Sunday ... Denny Neagle (6-2, 3.86) vs. Omar Daal (2-8, 6.83);
Monday ... Steve Parris (3-11, 5.67) vs. Brian Anderson (8-2, 4.50).
Cincinnati won't have to face left-hander Randy Johnson, the
NL's most devastating pitcher (11-2, 1.60). But the Diamondbacks' other
pitchers are more than competent. They had a league-best team
ERA of 4.07 entering Thursday. Byung-Hyun Kim (12 saves,
1.91 ERA) has replaced Matt Mantei as Arizona's closer.
The bats: Though the Diamondbacks entered Thursday ranked only 12th
in hitting in the league, several players are performing at a respectable
level, most notably center fielder Steve Finley (.299, 21 homers, 59 RBI)
and left fielder Luis Gonzalez (.298, 17, 47).
The rest: Cincinnati posted an 8-1 record against
Arizona last year. The Reds have never lost a game at Bank One Ballpark,
sweeping three-game series there last year and in 1998.
