Reds-Indians Scouting report

        • The series: Cleveland Indians (32-23, second place in the American League Central) vs. Cincinnati Reds (31-27, second place NL Central).

        • Where: Jacobs Field.

        • When: 7:05p.m. today, 1:25p.m. Saturday, 1:05p.m. Sunday.

        • Radio: WLW-AM (700).

        • TV: Fox Sports Net, tonight and Sunday. Channel 19, Saturday.

        • The bats: As usual, the Indians can hit. David Justice is having a big year (.291, 15 HRs, 47 RBI). He is one of five players with more than 10 home runs. But the Indians aren't scoring runs like they did last year. They are eighth in the AL in runs scored. Manny Ramirez is on the disabled list and won't play. The top of the order — Kenny Lofton (.250), Omar Vizquel (.257) and Roberto Alomar (.288) — isn't hitting as well as last year when the Reds met the Indians.

        • The arms: Today — Denny Neagle (5-0, 3.43) vs. Jim Bromer (0-0, 3.24).

        Saturday — Steve Parris (2-8, 5.04) vs. Dave Burba (6-1 4.75).

        Sunday — Ron Villone (6-3, 5.54) vs. Chuck Finley (5-4, 3.72).

The Indians are fourth in the AL in ERA. Steve Karsay has been effective as the closer (12 saves, 2.33 ERA).

        • The rest: The Indians were supposed to be off Thursday, but they had to go to Boston instead. Cleveland had won five straight heading into the game with the Red Sox. The Tribe haven't played particularly well at the Jake. They enter tonight 13-11 at home. The Indians and the Reds are the only teams in the majors not to be shut out this year.
