THE ARMS: Left-hander Gabe White, who hadn't pitched since Saturday, yielded John Valentin's seventh-inning homer that broke a 3-3 tie and gave Boston its second victory in a row over the Reds (16-15).
THE BATS: Sean Casey, who entered the game hitting .221, singled in his first three at-bats. Ken Griffey Jr. went 0-for-3, ending a four-game hitting streak in which he had batted .462 (6-for-13).
THE REST: The sellout crowd of 7,619 was the second-largest in Ed Smith Stadium history 40 people short of the record and the biggest ever to see the Reds since they began training in Sarasota in 1998. It was the Reds' 15th sellout and seventh at home.
UP NEXT: Today against Toronto at Dunedin, Fla., 1:05 p.m. Denny Neagle will oppose Blue Jays right-hander Frank Castillo.
