THE ARMS: Ron Villone was hit hard but also was victimized by third baseman Aaron Boone's pair of errors that generated three unearned third-inning runs. Villone will have another chance to tune up against Baltimore on Saturday in Chattanooga in the team's exhibition finale. Relievers Scott Williamson, Hector Mercado who's now unscored upon in 15 innings and Danny Graves each worked a scoreless inning, lowering the bullpen's ERA to 2.78 in the last eight games.
THE BATS: After trimming the deficit to one run with their ninth-inning rally, the Reds had the bases loaded and one out when Hal Morris bounced into a game-ending double play. Ken Griffey Jr. (6-for-13, .462, six RBI in his last four games) and Dante Bichette (9-for-19, .474, five RBI in his last five) stayed hot.
THE REST: Morris had three hits and turned in the baserunning play of the day when he beat Gabe Kapler's strong third-inning throw home to score from second base on Griffey's single.
