Reds Game Report
Reds 5, Blue Jays 4
THE ARMS: Scott Sullivan looked sharp in his pair of shutout innings. But Scott Williamson (5.40 ERA) struggled again, yielding three hits and allowing Toronto to tie the score in the ninth.
THE BATS: Ken Griffey Jr., hitting .400 in his last six games (8-for-20), had a pair of run-scoring hits, a double and a single. Pinch-hitters Aaron Boone and Kimera Bartee also sparkled. Boone's single gave Cincinnati a 4-3 lead in the seventh inning and Bartee broke a 4-4 tie in the ninth with his one-out single off Eric Gunderson. It scored Benito Santiago, who had doubled.
THE REST: Often criticized for his defense, left fielder Dmitri Young was involved in an eighth-inning double play when his throw to third base nailed Raul Mondesi, who was trying to advance on a fly ball. Pokey Reese made the baserunning play of the day, sliding to beat Mondesi's strong sixth-inning throw home after Griffey singled.
UP NEXT: 1:05 p.m. today against Tampa Bay. Denny Neagle will oppose Devil Rays right-hander Ryan Rupe.
