THE ARMS: Eddie Gaillard escaped a bases-loaded, one-out jam in the seventh inning by coaxing a double-play grounder, one of five the Reds (10-11) turned. They notched another double play on a fly ball. Scott Winchester (1-1) allowed a pair of eighth-inning runs but blanked Philadelphia in the ninth.
THE BATS: Jason LaRue, who's battling Benito Santiago for the backup catching spot, slugged a two-run homer in the eighth inning to break a 3-3 tie.
RBI doubles by Santiago and Mark Portugal helped the Reds' three-run second inning.
Ken Griffey Jr. singled sharply in his first two at-bats and lifted his spring average to .250 (8-for-32).
THE REST: The sellout crowd of 7,432 was the Reds' second in a row at home and eighth in their last 10 games. They had only two home sellouts in the previous two years at Sarasota.
UP NEXT: Today at 1:15 p.m. against the New York Yankees in Tampa. Pete Harnisch starts against Orlando El Duque Hernandez.
