Reds Game Report

Twins 7, Reds 5

        • The arms: Steve Parris allowed six earned runs in five innings, but he easily could have escaped with just two. Third baseman Freddy Garcia was slow to come up with Ron Coomer's infield hit off his glove in the third inning and threw too late to home plate as Cristian Guzman scored. That ignited Minnesota's four-run rally.

        • The bats: Not much happened for the Reds after Ken Griffey Jr.'s two-run, first-inning homer, his fourth home run of the spring. Barry Larkin's triple preceded Griffey's homer. The Reds managed just five hits after the second inning, including Sean Casey's eighth-inning RBI double and Chris Stynes' two-run ninth-inning homer.

        • The rest: Lured by a postgame fireworks show and Griffey, who made his first visit to Fort Myers, the standing-room-only crowd of 8,026 set a Hammond Stadium record, eclipsing the previous mark of 7,749 set March 9 against Cleveland. • Up next: Today against Boston at Fort Myers, 1:05 p.m. Ron Villone will start against right-handed knuckleball specialist Tim Wakefield.
