Reds Game Report
Phillies 8, Reds (ss) 6; Reds (ss) 4, Twins 2
›THE ARMS: Pete Harnisch lasted 4ö innings against Minnesota in his longest outing of the spring, yielding a pair of weak RBI singles to Cristian Guzman. Reliever Hector Mercado, only two years removed from reconstructive elbow surgery, pitched two shutout innings against Philadelphia to extend his scoreless streak to eight innings.
THE BATS: Ken Griffey Jr.'s sixth-inning double against Minnesota ended a hitless streak of 10 at-bats. He's batting .208 (5-for-24) this spring. Gusts blowing toward the left-field foul pole helped Sean Casey hit an opposite-field homer in the first inning off Philadelphia right-hander Chris Brock.
THE REST: Reds left-hander Dennys Reyes and Twins right fielder Matt Lawton had their rematch in the sixth inning of the night game. Last June 8, Reyes threw a pitch that hit Lawton in the face and fractured his right eye socket. Lawton resumed playing July 17. Reyes, who wasn't trying to hit Lawton, didn't come close to the Twin with any of his pitches and struck him out.
Aaron Boone, Cincinnati's regular third baseman, started his second game in a row at shortstop against Philadelphia as manager Jack McKeon looks for a backup to Barry Larkin.
UP NEXT: Today against Boston at Sarasota, 1:05 p.m. Denny Neagle will pitch against Boston's Ramon Martinez.
