Reds Game Report

Yankees 5, Reds 4

        • THE ARMS: Denny Neagle struck out the side in the third inning, which began a streak of four consecutive strikeouts. Joe Hudson, a non-roster invitee, yielded Bernie Williams' two-run homer in the fifth inning.

        • THE BATS: First-inning doubles by Chris Stynes, Barry Larkin and Dante Bichette gave Cincinnati a 2-0 lead. Eddie Taubensee's RBI double and a fielding error helped the Reds add two more runs in the fourth. Alex Ochoa singled and was on second base with two outs in the ninth when Chris Stynes flied out deep to right field.

        • THE REST: Left fielder Dmitri Young's two-base error on Felix Jose's eighth-inning liner accounted for New York's tiebreaking unearned run off Danny Graves. After Williams singled leading off, pinch-runner Donzell McDonald stole second base and stayed there until Jose's two-out drive.

Yankees celebrities on the premises included Reggie Jackson and Al Rosen, two of owner George Steinbrenner's special advisors.

        • UP NEXT: Tonight against Texas at 7:05 at Sarasota. Rookie Rob Bell, a contender for the No.5 starting spot, will oppose right-hander Esteban Loaiza.
