Cameron gets 7-fold raise from Mariners
The Associated Press
SEATTLE Mike Cameron, acquired by the Seattle Mariners in the Ken Griffey Jr. trade last week, agreed Monday to a one-year contract worth $2,225,000 seven times his $295,000 salary for Cincinnati last year.
Cameron, 27, hit .256 last season with 21 homers and 66 RBI for the Reds. He was traded along with pitcher Brett Tomko and a pair of minor leaguers last Thursday for Griffey, who agreed to a $116.5 million, nine-year contract with the Reds.
Cameron had asked the Reds for $2.5 million last month and had been offered $1.95 million. The Mariners inherited both figures, and the sides settled at the midpoint.
