Brennaman awaits Hall verdict
BY JOHN ERARDI
The Cincinnati Enquirer
The Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, N.Y., was closed Monday because of a blizzard, so that meant no word on whether Reds broadcaster Marty Brennaman is the latest electee to the broadcasters' wing of the Hall.
As soon as the Hall receives the final 1 to 2 votes of the seven-member electoral committee, it will announce this year's electee, said Jeff Idelson, Hall spokesman. That is expected to occur this week, but no later than Feb.14.
The honor is known as the Ford Frick Award. Brennaman narrowly missed receiving it last year. Two other leading candidates for the award only one is given each year are radio broadcasters Harry Kalas (Phillies) and Ken Coleman (Red Sox).
Former Reds slugger Tony Perez was elected to the Hall last month, and former Reds manager Sparky Anderson is the favorite for election by the Veterans Committee when it meets Feb.29.
