Brennaman to learn Hall status Monday
BY JOHN ERARDI
The Cincinnati Enquirer
Reds broadcaster Marty Brennaman will learn Monday whether he has been elected to the broadcasters' wing of the Baseball Hall of Fame.
Most of the seven members of the electoral committee cast voice votes on Thursday; the remainder of the voters mailed their ballots to Cooperstown, said Hall of Famer Jack Buck, the longtime St. Louis Cardinals broadcaster.
Buck, who is on the electoral committee, would not say whether Brennaman received the majority of the seven first-place votes, but said his first-place vote went to Brennaman.
Brennaman narrowly missed election to the broadcast wing last year. The honor is known as the Ford Frick Award.
If Brennaman were to be elected, it would add yet more of a Cincinnati Reds flavor to induction weekend in Cooperstown July 22-23. Earlier this month, former Reds slugger Tony Perez was elected to the Hall. Former Reds manager Sparky Anderson is the odds-on favorite for election by the Veterans Committee when it meets Feb.29.
